Project History

Disinventing Old English began in earnest in August 2020, with our website stating our project’s theoretical and practical rationale as well as our goals.  Until October 2020, we hosted informational webinars and informal conversations.

In November 2020, we embarked on a series of workshops, which ranged in topics from a cultural history of Old English and  Indigenous approaches to language and language study, to TWINE programming for language acquisition and neurodiversity in the language classroom.  These workshops are ongoing, and future workshops are being actively planned. Beginning in Spring 2022, the project split into two teams which are currently working on different parts of the larger Disinventing Old English project.  These teams include one working on a proof-of-concept chapter for an open access textbook and a research team that supports both the textbook endeavor and securing funding for future work.
